If ur dentist didn't have perfect teeth, would u trust and respect him/her less?

Well, we weren%26#039;t born as dentists, and I didn%26#039;t really wise up till I entered dental school. Up till then I was a typical young boy who didn%26#039;t listen to Mum and her nagging about brushing!. I%26#039;ve had 6 fillings done in my early years till about 16 yo.

That said, I haven%26#039;t had a new filling for the past 30 years.

If ur dentist didn%26#039;t have perfect teeth, would u trust and respect him/her less?
It would not make any difference the shape of the dentist teeth.. That is not any indication as to the kind of work that he/she does.
Reply:what kind of dentist wouldn%26#039;t have perfect teeth? If he couldnt do it himself, he could have dental students do it for practice. There just wouldnt be no excuse that! No, I wouldn%26#039;t go there, I would have to look real hard at their degree!
Reply:would you trust an overwieght plastic surgeon? i think not....
Reply:I get people saying to me all the time. %26quot;Oh, well no wonder you have great teeth and have never had any filling!%26quot; Sorry people, but I wasn%26#039;t BORN a Dental Therapist!!!!!
Reply:Have you ever heard the story about the small town with only two barbers? One has a bad hair cut and the other is gleaming...which should you go to? The answer is: go to the one who has the messy hair because it%26#039;s probably the other guy cutting it!

I%26#039;m sure there are more than two dentists in most towns, but remember, they cannot do their own fillings and things of such sorts! They too, need to see a dentist!
Reply:Dentist job is to take care of people%26#039; teeth. How can I rely on her to take care of my teeth if she can%26#039;t even handle her own?
Reply:Yes I would trust and respect them if their teeth were not perfect(unless they were gross teeth)...think about it this way, if you have a perfectly good healthy tooth that had no cavities, why mess with it for appearances? My dentist the other day told me he understands about toothaches, because he has had one himself...during college..Come to think of it, I didn%26#039;t even pay attention to his teeth....When I was a child I remember my dentist always stank of smoke...was always glad when he put on his mask.

Look at it this way, just because someone is a housekeeper doesn%26#039;t mean they have a perfect house.
Reply:Like some said, do not look at their own teeth and their degrees,

their school, continued education and how many procedures they

do. Check with your local BBB and best of all referrals is a great

way to do it. I have worked and had many friends that were dentists

and they all started with a bad reputation and bad work but they became real good down the line. Their technology they use and if they put any money in their own business.

Even though some shops are not in the 90210 area and might be in China Town or off the strip they might have just as high tech or even higher technology to take care of your needs in one day. Like Cerec 3D, 3D XRay and Color and many other things.

Before you commit visit shop and compare, ou, just because there is no line outside the door for clients does not mean he%26#039;s not good. I rather go in and get the 1 on 1 and maybe one or two other clients in the entire clinic vs 15 people and kids screaming and yelling?
Reply:I%26#039;m a dentist.

If your physician had uncontrolled hypertension, would you trust him/her less to treat your hypertension?

On top of that, haven%26#039;t you heard that doctors are the worst patients?
Reply:I%26#039;m a DENTIST.

I think you patient should not judge a dentist by his appearance. Not all dentist is born with a perfect set of teeth. It is not the appearance of the dentist teeth is important but its her skills!!knowledge!!attitude!!You could have a dentist with perfect set of teeth but with zero clinical skills or knowledge.What%26#039;s the point of studying for 5 years in dental school if patient judge a dentist by their teeth appearance???Then we might as well drop out from dental school and get ourselves orthodontic treatment to correct any of our malocclusion or do any restorative dentistry to Perfecting our teeth and then claim ourselves as a dentist.
Reply:What difference would the teeth make in the ability of the dentist? As long as the teeth were in good shape, the gums were healthy and not inflammed and red, I wouldn%26#039;t worry about it. Not everyone needs perfect teeth. I am a hygienist and my bottom front teeth slightly overlap (I had braces but the teeth still shifted) but I am going to leave them the way they are. My gums are healthy because I floss daily, the teeth are not decayed, why fix it if it ain%26#039;t broke? I also like the fact that my teeth are not %26quot;Perfect%26quot; so I kinda stand out compare to other hygienists that I know who have had veneers done, and everything else you can think of. My teeth are unique to me, they are well taken care of, and I love them. With that being said, and with my teeth not %26#039;perfect%26#039; I still have the ability to successfully scale teeth, polish them, give local anesthetic, take Xrays and everything else I do in practice. :) It%26#039;s what is between the ears that is important... the brain.

I do understand your question because I used to think the same thing but then looks don%26#039;t matter... it%26#039;s how you do the job and the personality that keeps the patients coming back.
